In-Network (HMO) Coverage

FAQs

Is Nack in-network with my insurance coverage?

Nack is not currently an in-network provider, but we are able to inquire with your insurance plan about treating you at an in-network benefits level if there are no in-network providers nearby that meet your needs. We are also able to treat prospective clients who have PPO plans and wish to see us on an out-of-network basis. We work with Aetna (including USC and Stanford SHIP), Anthem (including UC SHIP), Blue Shield of California, Carelon, Cigna, Kaiser Permanente, Magellan, MHN, and Optum/UnitedHC, among others. Please connect with us to learn more.

Do you accept self-pay?

For those clients who prefer to self-pay rather than use insurance, we are happy to accommodate a self-pay fee schedule.

Do you accept Medicaid?

We do not currently accept Medi-Cal or any other forms of Medicaid.

Will insurance cover the cost of receiving care at Nack?

During your first call with Nack, we will obtain your insurance information and call your insurance carrier on your behalf to verify your benefits. Within 1-2 business days, we will share with you what will be covered by your insurance and what you should expect to pay out-of-pocket. You can expect for insurance to cover a significant portion of the cost of treatment.

Does Nack contact my previous therapist(s)/providers?

We recognize that many of our clients have already engaged in mental health care before coming to Nack. It is always helpful for us to connect with your previous providers to ensure that we can personalize your treatment plan while at Nack, but we will only do so after receiving written permission from you.

Will my school know that I'm receiving treatment?

It depends on the situation. If you are using a university student health plan, you will likely need to go to your university's counseling center to receive a referral for care from an outside provider for IOP treatment. If you are on a health plan separate from your university, then you may self-refer to Nack directly, though we always recommend going through your university counseling center if you feel comfortable, as it can be helpful for us to collaborate with providers on your campus once you complete treatment at Nack. However, we prioritize upholding privacy based on clients' wishes. We are always happy to connect first and navigate these situations with each prospective client.

Will my parents know that I'm receiving treatment?

Nack abides by privacy laws and will never disclose protected health information without consent to do so. One consideration is that the primary insurance policyholder will be notified of all services rendered by the insurance company. If privacy is a concern, please reach out to us to your options.

What is the role of the family in the treatment process?

Nack takes a broad view in defining "family," as we know circumstances vary for everyone. Some clients will find it most helpful to include members of their nuclear family in their treatment journeys, while others might prefer to involve a friend, partner, roommate, or someone else who is supportive of their mental health care. In any case, Nack clients will have twice-monthly sessions with their assigned therapist and a member of their personal life to build support outside of treatment that will last after treatment ends.

Do I need to be a college student?

Not necessarily, though our program is specifically designed to treat emerging adults who are between 18-30 years old and college-attending or college-bound. We recognize that circumstances vary, so we conduct each intake call on a case-by-case basis to determine if Nack is a compatible fit. Please reach out to us to discuss.

Does Nack provide psychiatry services or medication management?

We do not currently provide psychiatry services or medication management in-house. However, we collaborate closely with on-campus and off-campus psychiatrists to supplement our clinical care.

What diagnoses and conditions do you treat?

We treat primary mental health disorders, which are most often severe depression, severe anxiety, and trauma/PTSD. We have also designed our program to be able to treat suicidal ideation and self-harm behaviors. The full list of diagnoses and conditions that we treat can be found on the homepage. We do not treat primary substance use or eating disorders.

What ages do you treat?

We treat adults 18-30 years old. If you fall outside of this age range but are still interested in enrolling in our program, please give us a call to discuss further.

What if I have a substance use or eating disorder?

We firmly believe that focused care is excellent care, as we know that high-quality care must be rooted in specific clinical programming. Nack is able to treat substance misuse and/or disordered eating if these diagnoses are secondary to a primary mental health diagnosis and the prospective client's daily functioning is not severely impaired. For prospective clients who come to us with primary substance abuse and/or eating disorders, we will provide referrals to trusted local providers that specialize in treating those diagnoses.

How do I enroll in the program? How quickly will I be able to start?

Prospective clients using a student health insurance policy will require a referral from a campus provider. These can be easily attained, and Nack can point you in the right direction to request a referral from your school. All other prospective clients can self-refer by contacting Nack directly. We will collect your contact and insurance information, call your insurance carrier on your behalf to verify your benefits coverage, and schedule you for an intake assessment with one of our clinicians. We aim to enroll clients quickly after the initial call or referral, typically within 2 business days of receiving insurance information and completing an intake assessment.

Do you provide gender-separate treatment?

We find that clients heal and grow most in community, and that a diverse community leads to the optimal client experience. For this reason, our groups are inclusive of all identities, though clients can raise more private topics during their weekly individual sessions if preferred.

How many clients are in Nack's IOP program at any given time?

Group therapy sessions can include up to 12 clients at any given time, though the broader program has multiple group cohorts. We value building community and having the opportunity to build friendships while in our program, but we also prioritize ensuring that clients' individual needs are met sufficiently.

How long is Nack's IOP program?

Nack’s IOP curriculum is designed as a 16-week program. Some clients will benefit from more or less time, which will be assessed on an individualized basis by our treatment team and in collaboration with the client.

What is IOP Care?

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a structured mental health treatment program, centered in group therapy, for those who would benefit from more than once-weekly individual therapy sessions. Nack's IOP program consists of group therapy for 3-4 days per week for 3 hours each day, along with once-weekly individual therapy and twice-monthly family/supportive other therapy.
